Welcome to the CHILD Deaf Youth Project
Welcome to the CHILD Deaf Youth Project (CDYP) website. We hope you find this informative and interesting. We also welcome your suggestions and ideas on our ‘Comments Board’.
CHILD (an acronym for Child Hearing Impairment & Language Development) Deaf Project is a Deaf led registered charity organisation which is also registered with OFSTED. CDYP was originally established in 1996, working for the benefit of all D/deaf* and hard of hearing children and young people within the Tees Valley area (which is made up of the five boroughs of, Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Stockton, and Redcar & Cleveland).
We wish to empower D/deaf young people, to make informed decisions about their future, reach their full potential and lead the way for them to become valued members of their communities, taking their rightful place within mainstream society. We aim to encourage and enable D/deaf children and young people to build their confidence, self-esteem and develop a positive identity. The Project does this by enabling young people to develop the skills and confidence needed to lead independent adult lives.
We have secured funding from the Big Lottery fund and others and continue to go from strength to strength. Our staff are committed in their focus on providing services and activities for D/deaf and hard of hearing young people living in our area and improving their opportunities in life.
I would like to acknowledge the kind support of Calm Asylum for funding, designing, hosting and the implementation of this website.
*D/deaf is used to signify our commitment to all deaf people and shows an inclusive approach, welcoming all deaf people, whatever their cultural preference.
Funded with the support of Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales and BBC Children in Need Appeal.
