Services
These are CHILD Deaf Youth Project’s (CDYP) current service provisions, however, we continually seek to expand and enhance these services and welcome suggestions and ideas from young people and their parents. You may use our comments board to make any suggestions to us.
Youth Clubs
We have two Youth clubs that run all year round and our clubs are D/deaf youth led. We encourage young people to take active roles in developing ideas for the programme of activities and the way the club is run. We provide a range of educational and social activities, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, where young people can interact using their first/preferred communication methods, in an appropriate environment, whilst at the same time developing and gaining skills and enjoying a positive experience.
11+ Youth club:- Age range for this club is 11 to 19 years and it runs every week : Wednesday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
Under 11 Youth club:- Age range for this club is 5 to 10 years and it runs every week on a Thursday from 4.00pm to 6.00pm. U11 is now registered with OFSTED to allow full and inclusive access to all activities for children aged 5 – 8 years.
Youth club activities include residential weekends, which encourages youngsters in team work, confidence building, how to work on their own initiative and challenges them to life away from home, encouraging independent living. Other Youth club activities include outdoor events such as Orienteering, Abseiling, Canoeing, Bowling, etc., and workshops such as I.T., Arts and crafts, Drama and Professional Advice Services. All our activities are aimed at having fun as well as developing new skills.

Summer Play Scheme
During the summer holidays, we run a very successful Summer Play Scheme, which has been operating since 1986. It runs every Wednesday for six weeks from 10.00a.m. to 3.00p.m., depending on the activities, and provides youngsters with an opportunity to meet their friends through the holidays. Children can take advantage of the many in-door and out-door activities and games that are on offer, in a secure and organised environment. The Summer Play Scheme plays an important part in reducing the isolation that can be felt by D/deaf young people during the long summer holidays.
Examples of activities include: Caving, trips to Beamish museum, Theme parks such as Alton Towers, sports events such as Cycling, Archery, Football and Rock Climbing, Games and lots, lots more.
